Your Questions About Domain Web Host
James asks…
Difference between domain names and web hosts?
I want to go through a web host but apparently they have the ability to suspend your account and they control how much bandwidth you have and all that, so if I just bought a domain name without having a web host, could I still have unlimited bandwith and not have anyone suspend my account?
Whats the difference between buying a web host and buying a domain name?
admin answers:
A webhost is a computer that is connected to internet and has the ability to store and serve files when requested(only one of the many services that can be provided) . Each webhost has unique or set of unique adresses called IP address (for example 127.0.0.1 or 123.123.123.123). Since remembering such such numbers can be difficult, a Domain Name System (DNS) is used that allows to refer/reach these webhosts by using names such as www.xyz.com that are easy to remember.
When you purchase a domain, you just get to own this label (xyz.com) for the period of time you register(usually 1 year). Since a domain cannot by itself serve file, you will need a webhost to which this labels will point to. Say your webhost’s IP address is 123.123.123.123 you configure your domain from registrar’s control panel to point it to 123.123.123.123. Once you do this, your domain registration service provider’s software will pass this information to 13 root nameserver(refer to source links) that store this configuration.
When a browser requests www.xyz.com, the browser requests the IP address for this name from your ISP. If ISP doesn’t know this, it will request one of the 13 root nameservers. Since the root nameserver already know the IP address associated with your name/label, it will reply with IP address and the ISP will pass it on to your browser. The browser will then request, using the IP address, the webhost for the files that need to be served.
Hope this helps

Can I buy some space from a web host without having a Domain name?
I want to get some space and add a domain name a lil later. Is this possible?
admin answers:
Yea that’s possible. Though like the others said, not very wise for your wallet. But there are some great coupons out there now for saving some bucks so act quick before they’re gone.

Charles asks…
Web Domain & Hosting; any GOOD, trust worthy, and cheap sites I can check out?
I had GoDaddy about 2 years ago, didn’t go too well let me tell you.
Now I’m using Blue Host, but I’m wondering if there is anything cheaper?
With decent space, et cetera. I could care less about e-mail accounts, et cetera.
Something with monthly payments would be great actually. I’m usually finding sites that have a pay for a whole year and I’m not up for that this time
Anywho~
Thanks for reading!
