It is not at all necessary to have a web host in the UK. I’m in the UK and run a UK website with over 18,500 visitors per month but it is hosted in the USA.

When choosing a web host it’s of course important to consider the cost (some hosting can be very expensive) but here are some other important things you should take into consideration too:

Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites.

Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges.

Uptime: There’s no point in having a website if people can’t see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee?

Number of websites allowed: If you’re looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this?

Support: If you have any problems you need to be able to contact your web host quickly and easily to get the problem sorted.

Anyone can create/change a website from somewhere else as long as you have the corrct code mysql sequence and all that jazz….mysql and php is what you should be using for your database if your not already doing that. But you can also create from two states away and emial the files somewhere with littleto no trouble at all due to size of programs and coding..

ANY system administrator can read ANY document on one of their machines. Encrypting is not a good answer for web access, in fact truly sensitive documents should never be publicly visible to the web. Better is to store sensitive material in a database and use dynamic web page generation to view it. This can be controlled by the inbuilt database security (set your own root password and a password for yourself as an administrator on mysql and even su can’t read it).
