Your Questions About Domain Web Host

Helen asks…

Where can I find the best web domain hosting site for a decent price?

My company has tried GoDaddy and they basically flopped on us, leaving us with a terrible-looking website. Any thoughts or inputs will help tremendously. Thanks.

admin answers:

A hosting company provides hosting, not the design of your website.

If you want a good looking website you have two options:
1. Learn how to do it yourself
2. Hire a web designer

If you want something in between like building the site yourself but with some cool tools provided by your web host check Squarespace. They offer really good web builder with their hosting.

Can we later host another site on another hosting site and out the same domain that is testing123.com(domain bought my my) ??

can we change web sites and hosts for the same domain ?

Yes you can 🙂 you can assign a new hosting to your domain or simply delete the current website data & upload a new one 🙂 Hope that helps 🙂

Sandra asks…

Linking a domain to a separate web host?

I’ve just purchased a domain name to go with my hosting from another company. I’ve never done it seperately before so don’t know if i’ve missed something.

So far, on the webhost i’ve entered the website address i’ve bought and it’s all been setup around that. On the website I bought the domain from i’ve changed the nameservers to that of my hosting.

Is there anything else that needs to be done before they are fully linked?

Thanks.

admin answers:

After you’ve adjusted the nameservers you shouldn’t need to take any further steps.
However, keep in mind that it can take anywhere from 6 to 48 hours depending on the configuration of the host for the changes to take effect.

Ken asks…

Best Web Hosting for Small Business and Multiple Domains?

Hello,

I know this has been asked before, but I’ve searched many web sites and reviews and I’m still confused. So, I’ve narrowed it down to Hostmonster, Bluehost, and Lunarpages. I’m a pretty technical guy, but I’m looking for a reliable web host for multiple domains that some will use databases. I’m not so concerned about a “simple” web site creator, as opposed to one that follows the HTML & CSS standards. I was going to go with 1&1 after seeing their huge ads in PC Magazine until I read the reviews. Thus, I’m not so concerned about cheap, just a service that is reliable, professional, and popular. In other words, what service would a developer recommend and use?

Thanks,
Brett
This is what concerns me: https://www2.jeffcroft.com/blog/2006/feb/27/11-internet-is-the-devil/.

And then I just happened to stumble across DreamHost: https://www.dreamhost.com/aboutus.html. They are employee-owned, which in and of itself impresses me about a company. Any customer reviews on this company?

admin answers:

I may not be as picky (mean that in a good way!) as you are because I definitely don’t consider myself a “professional” compared to friends who have web design businesses, but we’ve been really happy with Host Excellence. ( https://www.hostexcellence.com/templates/he/v1/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=JTcaneel )

There are a ton of paid web hosts out there, and my husband and I exhausted ourselves researching them before making a decision to go with HostExcellence for this site and another one we run. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that we were getting tired and we liked HostExcellence’s plans for mulitple domains and the fact that they had a site builder with tons of customizable templates (many of them do, but some of the good ones on the review lists don’t). My husband doesn’t use the site builder for his — he does his own code. I use the site builder until I’m more proficient on Nvu. We also liked the amount of storage and bandwidth we were given, among other things. I haven’t had a complaint yet, and we’ve been customers since October 2005. They have excellent 24/7 live chat support that helps me all the time with just about any issue you can imagine. Whenever a service has been down (which has only been a few times), it’s either back up before I have a chance to ask about it or it’s resolved before I get off live chat with them. They have a ton of tools at your service, we have more e-mails available than we’ll ever use, and more bandwidth and storage space than we’ve come close to dipping into. They have ftp storage and a really easy thing called webshell that makes it pretty simple to do ftp stuff. Php boards, databases, etc. Are all available. Good luck!

Steven asks…

What is a good web hosting company for a 1500-5000 UU a day website?

I read reviews online and apparently they are all terrible… I need a good uptime and 24/7 customer service.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO ADVERTISE YOUR SERVICES, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM CUSTOMERS, UNLESS YOU HAVE A PROVEN RECORD.

admin answers:

There’s no such thing as “unlimited” resources. Common sense has it that if a provider markets “unlimited” resources, they’re cutting corners elsewhere. Which means you, as a customer, will suffer as a result. Bandwidth costs money. Hardware costs money. Labor costs money!

Anyway, I recommend getting a FULLY MANAGED dedicated server if you’re going to need uptime, reliability, and customer service. They’re not cheap but they’re reliable. You do not want shared hosting since another Website on the same server could cause yours to be unreachable. Also, a security breach on a website on the same shared server could also lead to your website being compromised and hacked.

Cheers,
Joe

Your Questions About Google Web Hosting

Michael asks…

How can I change the MX record on my domain name (hosted by web.com) to rout email to Google Apps?

I have found the actual MX records that I need to insert (they are given by google) but I don’t actually know HOW to put them in, and do not really understand html formatting. Please help?

admin answers:

The good news: You don’t need to know HTML.

You need to log into the account at the domain registrar’s website. That’s where the domain name settings are. Godaddy.com or register.com or 1and1.com or another company that does domain name registration. You probably get emails from them if you own your domain name about renewing your domain name, etc.

Once you get logged in there, go to the controls for the domain name, which differ from one registrar to another. Reference the help section to talk to customer service there if you need help finding the MX records for the domain.

Mary asks…

What is the best web hosting?

Basicly , i need a good cheap , fast website hosting service?
I did of course search google just maybe you people might have other ideas xD
thanks!

admin answers:

I recommend one of these: https://www.tophostingpicks.com

iPage has the best offer right now.
Their standard price is $84/year ($6.95) but they have
a 50% sale, one year of hosting for $42.00.

Their plan includes:

Unlimited disk space
Unlimited bandwidth
Free domain name

Price: $42/year ($3.50)

They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They’re also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.

They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop).

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like WordPress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

Sandy asks…

What’s the minimum I need to know, to create a web site and put it on Google?

I’ve done the HTML/XHTML tutorials on the W3 Web schools site. Once finishing the CSS tutorial, I’m wondering if that’s enough to create a site, add some google ads and get it out there. (I know I’ll need a a web host and domain.)

Is there anything else I should learn first? (eg. how do to measure traffic)

admin answers:

You measure traffic using software that you’ll either install to your web hosting account, use a site stats company, or your web hosting company may have this for you. It usually requires you to add a short javascript code to every page you’ll be tracking.

So it is basically just build the website’s files, upload them to the host, then point the domain to the host. Make sure you have the meta tags with different descriptions and keywords targeted for every page. Make sure everything is working properly before submitting to search engines. Get an account at https://www.google.com/webmasters/#utm_medium=et&utm_source=us-en-et-bizsol-0-biz1-all&utm_campaign=en Google Webmaster Tools to help with being indexed properly.

Charles asks…

If I sign up for domain hosting through google apps, will I be able to use my own html editor.?

I am doing a project for school and it must be done with Expression Web by Microsoft.

$10/yr domain hosting via Google sounds like a great deal if it is compatible with Expression Web.

Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

Google apps will not support other html editor.

It is based on Ajax technology and you can plug your domain
with google apps.

Because of WYSIWYG page creator it is easy to design your
pages.

It is better to use Google pages directly than converting your pages designed outside it.

Helen asks…

I want to start my own websites to make extra money. Which is the best web hosting provider?

admin answers:

Jeff,

There really isn’t one web host that’s “best” for everyone. It depends on what features you need and how much you want to spend.

If you’re planning on creating multiple websites, you’ll want a hosting package that allows unlimited domains for one price. Do you want to learn html coding? If not you’ll need a host that has user-friendly software that makes building pages easy. Templates are also helpful because they give you a foundation to build your site on. Also, look for hosts that have Fantastico. It’s just a little program you run from your control panel that lets you install forums, blogs, and other neat features on your site.

Here’s a cool site that lists various hosts with comparisons, features, and reviews: https://www.webhost-comparison.com

You probably don’t need a dedicated server (which costs hundreds of dollars per month) unless your site really becomes huge or you need to run special processes which hog system resources. One of the shared packages should suit you fine.

One more thing…you’ll find most “basic” packages a little short on features. You’ll probably have to go with a higher package, but you should still be able to find one for $9 a month or even less.

Whatever you choose, good luck with your online business!

Nancy asks…

who are the most good web hosting provider?

i want to create my own web site, so help me to find the best web hosting provider.

If you want to build a site for free take a look at my source.

Mark asks…

I have static ip provided from my internet service provider can i host a web server at home?

I have local internet provider and he as given me a static ip so can i host a website on a server created at home. So can i create a web server at home? how to do that.

admin answers:

Setup a PC (doesnt need to be a server)

Give it an internal static IP on your local network (not the one your ISP gave you)

NOw install your hosting software? IIS, Apache, WAMP etc

On your router, do a port forward for all traffic on port 80 to the internal IP you gave your web server (PC).

NOw from anywhere external simply browse to your external static IP that your ISP gave you and you should reach your web server.

Your Questions About Web Hosting Companies

Paul asks…

Looking for good small web hosting company?

I have been researching web hosting companies and i have been with justhost and 1on1 and their customer service is horrible, I have been looking at a few smaller web hosting companies like ILink https://www.ilinkwebhosting.com. Anyone have any experiences with them?

admin answers:

I like https://www.domaincityhosting.com the phone support wait is posted and never is more than a few minutes. I called once to upgrade and their was no wait, a live human in America picked up the phone. But their hosting isn’t lacking either, I’ve been up 100% for years.

Michael asks…

mostly web hosting companies use linux. What is linux and does it work with windows?

admin answers:

I think you are really asking if you can use Linux web hosting with Windows.

The answer is yes. The server you get your web hosting from will be running Linux. What that means is when someone tries to go to your web page, the operating system of the server will send the info to the users computer, most often running Windows or Mac. The operating system of the server makes no difference to someone accessing your web page.

The difference between Linux and Windows web hosting is important when you want to have your web page perform some kind of function. If you want your web site to contain a message board, chat room, picture gallery, or any kind of dynamic information you will probably need to install a “script” on your server. Windows and Linux run different scripts.

I prefer Linux. I use PHP and CGI scripts. Windows uses ASP.

There are other languages but these are the most common.

To find scripts go to: www.hotscripts.com

Ruth asks…
