Web hosting companies & creating an online store?

I have currently built my own website with Yahoo Small Business and the software is Sitebuilder. I pay for the Yahoo Website Hosting Pckage which is $12.95 a month.

I reguarly sell products through my website. However, it does not allow you to operate an online store and have a shopping cart unless you upgrade to the Merchant Solutions Plan which is $39.95 plus a $50 set up fee!

This seems rather expensive, just to allow my customers to order different things in the same transaction. At the moment they can just purchase 1 item through PayPal on my site but I would really like to enable them to buy several things and have the option to view them in their shopping cart.

Can anyone recommend any reasonable priced web hosting companies online that will allow me to do this and also build my own website from scratch – I dont want a template to work from.

I will want to create a website for my handyman services. I will want the best design it yourself package as in: most options for creating site. I will need approximately 5 pages to start with and may expand over time. Pictures will wind up on site (job examples) and links to product manufacturers will either send user direct to manufacturer’s site or will open a new window to site. E-mail account with at least one address required. In the future I may have a need to provide a form for potential clients to fill out and an ability to send bid proposals out. Would prefer highest or next to highest resolution capability if applicable. Is the Yahoo web design/hosting known for exponentially raising prices after year one is done?

I made my website with “expression web.” I added the frontpage extensions?

at my godaddy host (in the file manager)! I did this because I wanted my forms to work that I created on my website’s pages (join mailing list…eg.) But Now, everytime my website is typed into a url, a Windows “pop-up” appears, telling the user to sign in. If they dont, Internet Explorer does not allow them into my site! I never gave anyone a sign in name! What gives? Does anyone know how to fix this? I did want to have people sign in in order to get access to certain places in my site, sometime down the line, but I wasnt decided on where right now. Someone please help. And please try to use plain english because Im fairly new to website design

Very general question on updating web pages?

Before I begin let me state I have no web development experience so this question is coming from a newbie. There is an org that has an existing website and what they want to do is update their website. I don’t know what happened to their web guy. At the time I’m trying to ascertain basic info such as who is hosting the website, them or an ISP.

My question for now is pretty basic. Do you update the web pages by pulling them down from the website, update the pages using a pgm like Frontpage (that is what they currently use and they are not going to change this) and then FTPing back the updated pages? What is the mechanism for pulling down and then placing back the pages? I’ve never done this but since I have a tech background they asked me plus it’s a favor. Thanks

Microsoft Publisher & Frontpage Extensions incompatible?

I made it in MS Publisher 2007 & uploaded it via go daddy

In order to get the form to work, I need to enable “front page extensions”

I did that via go daddy’s hosting menu. Once I did that, I could not view the site in the web browser. A request for user name & password popped up.

I called go daddy and they told me that IF front page extensions are installed, then the “front page security settings” override all other security settings.

I have no clue what any of this means. What I do know is that I have to find something called “front page security settings” and change those security settings so the request for a user name and password don’t show up when someone tries to view the site.

The problem is, I can’t find this magical “front page security settings” since I am not using Microsoft Front page….I am using Microsoft Publisher.

Any way to fix this?

Design my own site?

I am starting my own business online selling only one product. My website will consist of 3 simple pages, a shopping cart, and a free membership area.

I am computer literate, and have decent experience using microsoft frontpage to build web pages.

The only thing I don’t know how to do is integrate my website’s template (one with a cart and membership area) to a program like frontpage. And I am not too keen on how to put the site on my host (but I am sure they could help me with that?)

The guy I hired to do this is an @$$hole who is taking forever, and everyone else wants thousands of dollars to do it.

Would it be possible for someone like me to build the site on my own? Or would I just be wasting my time?

Any tips?
