It would cost about 60-70 dollars a month for dsl; to get a static ip address, you have talk to your internet service provider to get one, or switch providers and ask for a static ip.

If you answer this question, make sure you understand I am only interested in Windows Web Hosting that includes MS SQL database server with the features I listed. The first two answers I received were for Linux servers which is absolutely useless to me.

Lol at the spam replies. The best way to upload files is using a FTP program. You can search for “filezilla” in google and install that on your computer. When using FTP, you need the following –

hostname – yourdomain.com
port – 21
username – yourusername@yourdomain.com
password – yourpassword

Every hosting provider differs when it comes to where the files should be uploaded. You should contact 1&1 and ask them which folder to use for your HTML files.

What’s the best free web host to use with joomla 1.6?

I want to be able to use joomla 1.6, not joomla 1.5, with a free web host, but I haven’t found a good one yet. I can install joomla 1.6 manually, but I really don’t WANT to, and most free web hosts won’t let me because of the file size of the joomla zip file (around 7 mb). Does anyone know of a FREE webhost I can use that either has an easy joomla 1.6 installer or will let me install zip files big enough to cover manually installing joomla 1.6?

I don’t recommend using free web hosting but if you must check out https://www.thefreehosts.com From reading you description of how you are trying to install Joomla 1.6 I think your problem is uploading a zip file to try and install it. You have to unzip the zip installation and then upload all of the files to the proper directory not upload the zip file. Once you have uploaded all of the files create a mysql database for the Joomla 1.6 installation then run the installation and put in the mysql database information.
