Your Questions About Yahoo Web Hosting

William asks…
Hello, what is the maximum burstable bandwidth on Yahoo Web Hosting? How well can it handle a traffic spike?
This would be if the website got posted to yahoo news, or slashdot.org or a similar news site where you might have millions of visitors in a day, or if it gets mentioned in a TV broadcast and you have millions of visitors within minutes.
What are the bandwidth caps on the servers 10 Meg, 100Meg? 1000Meg?
In other words can it handle the “Slashdot Effect”, or “Digg Effect” or any similar type scenarios?

admin answers:
On a hosted server you could expect to get 10MB/s for a short time. It couldn’t be sustained and it would have to come from multiple sources. Too much traffic might appear to be a DoS attack and your sight could be shut down.

I want a quality website with no ads, so I was just wondering. Also, instead of using their own designs for webpages could I use my own code to do it?

Laura asks…
does yahoo web hosting support java language?
I am looking to use java language for java web services and j2ee, using java to access database.

admin answers:
For this you will need Java EE 5 application certified server, which includes:
-Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 9.0,
-WebLogic Application Server 10.0 from BEA Systems
-SAP NetWeaver Application Server
-JEUS 6, an Application Server from TmaxSoft
-Geronimo 2.0
-WebSphere Application Server Community Edition 2.0
I don’t know if Yahoo offers these services, you will really have to ask them, but why not just use MYSQL?
