Your Questions About Yahoo Web Host

Mark asks…
Why is our web site hosted by Yahoo blocked with a “508 unused” error message?
I’m the webmaster of a public library web site hosted by Yahoo. Now, instead of the site, all you get is a 508 unused error message beginning with “sorry, unused.” I’ve phoned Yahoo support a few times. The manager said it was a phishing problem. He said he’d get the abuse team to call me. The abuse team has not called. This is a public library site, a government site, with many patrons using it every day. What do I do now?

admin answers:
Call Yahoo again, demand to speak to the abuse department now, and I also recommend to switch hosts. That’s just what I would do.

Linda asks…
Are you required to use the given templates by yahoo when using Yahoo’s web hosting service?
If you aren’t required, can you use FTP to make your own website just like every other host?
If you aren’t required, can you use FTP to make your own website just like every other host?
No, I don’t own a website under Yahoo and I’m not looking to make one with Yahoo or any other company so please dont advertise.

admin answers:
It looks like you can use FTP to upload your own content. You’re not tied to Yahoo’s templates at all. Check out this page:

Richard asks…
Which web host should I use?
Should I use blue host or yahoo web host ? Why? why not?

admin answers:
They all are good and fairly similar in price
It is marketing and knowing your needs
For example – hostgator gives you unlimited add on domains but not a ton of space
None of the hosting services I use are bad . They are all ok.
The best one by far is bluehost
Very good tech support
one domain and 5 add on with the package
Lots of space
Very fast speed
I have ultra high speed broadband cable and i noticed a major difference over any of the others.
All the hosting companies are pretty good.
Stay away from the el cheapos
I highly recommend bluehost

Maria asks…
Email (receive) doesn’t work on new Yahoo-hosted web hosting account?
Yesterday, I signed-up for a new Yahoo webhosting account. I get email with the account, at my domain name (worldwide-evangelical-church.com). I go into the Yahoo email account for it, and see that I can send email from there (sending works). However, after sending an email to another account from my Yahoo hosted account, I reply to the message, but my new Yahoo webhosted account rejects it. Does it take more time? Today is day 2 on my new Yahoo webhosted account.
Error I get from a different email when I attempt to reply to my new yahoo-hosted account:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to deliver your message to the
following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I’ve given up. Sorry it didn’t
work out.

The day I signed-up with Yahoo webhosting was 2-24-07. Email sending worked immediately, but email receiving doesn’t work (now 2-27-07). Since filing the question, I did contact support and they said there was no ETA for a fix. The only reason why I went with Yahoo was because I thought their email was solid– I had issues with other webhosters. New question- is there some sore of compensation (refund) for the service since they aren’t delivering what they promised?

admin answers:
I am receiving the same error/problem and signed up on Friday! It has been over four days and still no word from Yahoo support.
They said their engineers are “working on it”. Unbelievable!
I received the same error…could it be that they are using an invalid IP address for us at Yahoo Small Biz?
