Most web hosting companies seem the same. What unique or important factors (aside from bandwidth and storage) should be considered when making a selection?

First of all, look at the price. Places like www.freewebs.com are free, but your homepage is branched off of their URL. Then, look and see how easy it is, and how much skill of HTML/CSS you have to know. Make sure the site is compatible and easy to use, and if you have to pay, read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy before submitting any personal info. I would go with www.freewebs.com, they are free and easy to use, and have a set template so you dont have to make your own.

Do you know a web hosting company that accepts paypal as a form of payment?
I’m looking for a web hosting company, in the uk or elsewhere, that accepts paypal as a form of payment (I currently don’t own a debit or credit card). I’d like to make a one-off payment to cover all web hosting costs for a year, instead of paying monthly bills.
Also essential: Linux server with perl installed, cgi-enabled, and the possibility to access my user account by SSH console.
Can you recommend any companies that fulfill the above?

Do you need a NZ web hosting company for NZ website?
Do you? Most of my site visitor are going to be New Zealanders, so I am guessing using a NZ web hosting company will make my site load faster? But I find alot of US based web hosting companies offering dirt cheap hosting plans as well as unlimited disk space etc which is superior comparing to NZ hosting companies, can someone with experience help me out here?
