web design and web hosting?
Okay, I have got photoshop (7.0) and I do a little bit of web design on it. I also have “Fusion” for hosting, and I have “Dreamweaver MX 2004” (Which I haven’t had time to learn yet).
The question is….. does anyone on here do web design? How did they get started in it, do you do it out of your house, or business?
And web hosting. I have used 1&1 hosting before, and had pretty good luck with them. But does anyone know of (if there is one) a legit site that has free hosting? Maybe without ads? (Probably gonna be hard to find I know). Or what is your experience’s with different web hosting places? Can you reccomend a good one?
I am basically wanting a place to have me a site, where I can have some stuff I have made on there, and maybe some templates to sale.

Saz: Wow, thanks. I was hoping to sell a few templates, and if I got good enough and got the programs I needed maybe sell some models, or characters and maybe some logos. (I’ve posted another question about graphic design and automotive design). I’ve already done a few sites for people, and a logo or two, but would like to get my own site setup to really get it going if I can. I want to do this mainly on the side unless it really catches on.

Several questions here, I’ll try to answer in separate points below:
1. Learning web development
That’s a personal style question. For me I found it easiest to take a course to make me focus at first. I then went head-first hands-on and learned wayy more. I suggest the basics you need are HTML and CSS. Everthing beyond that is dependent on what you want to do.
2. Web Hosting
Suggest if you’re actually selling on-line and showcasing your work that you may want a dedicated site. Free hosting may not be all that impressive to potential client…
I have found https://www.canadawebhosting.ca/ to be excellent, but maybe more than you want to spend. They are Canadian based and have phenomenal customer support. You also get a mySql DB (DataBase) at no extra charge – comes in handy for advanced tools.
3. As for selling on-line, if it’s just templates and low inventory you can set-up a PayPal solution and use a PayPal shopping cart. If you have greater needs, then that would again push you into dedicated hosting with a database option.
Now, just what are you selling? You may want to post some follow up questions to get a feel for how much consumer interest there may be in your offering. This can help you weigh in on how much $$ this actually worth for you to spend. – There are also tax write-offs to consider if you’re ready to start a real business…

How can I update to WordPress 2.5.1 when my blog is through Yahoo Web Hosting?
Trying to update to WordPress 2.5.1 and all the online tutorials have been no help whatsoever. If someone could please let me know step by step how to update through the Yahoo! File Manager, that would be wonderful.

Ah good question, have you emailed their support?
If you have FTP access you can follow the wordpress instructions, upload the new files, run the new script. If Yahoo is forcing you to use their file manager it gets harder… Please let me know and i’ll try to help.
Might want to switch to a full featured host…

I have couple of questions about Yahoo Web Hosting
1: If you get the 1 year plan do you pay $10.
2. I was looking and i was wondering why was the 5 year plan $45 dollars for a month and a 1 year $10 for a month. Why is it that and which one should i get?
3. If my 1 year plan ends can i get the 1 year plan again for $10 a month.

I would suggest against Yahoo as a web host. They lack alot of the features your likely to grow into if your looking to found a growing business. They also charge ungodly extra for features that most webhosts give for free.
You should try a more logical and economical host such at the one I now use. Www.drilikath.net They charge less and offer more features. Tech support is more reliable, and they have fewer limitations on what they will complain about you doing. Run your own store, they will not quadruple your price because your using the web space for a store. Infact they will help you out and wish for your success.
Ranting aside, yes you can renew your 1 year plan. Infact they will renew it for you if you do not remember to cancel.
