Computer idiot needs help with Web hosting?
I want to buy 5 different domains. I am not a computer expert by any means, but I want to have 4 of the 5 redirect to one site. Question 1) Do all five need to be hosted? 2) When purchasing from the domain wholesaler, and I want to use their hosting, do I accept the Windows hosting or Linux hosting, when I am using an online web builder, or if I decided to build a site using publisher.
I would pay someone to do this but I am trying to keep costs down on this project.

Which hosting you accept depends on who’s building the web sites. I would take Linux hosting over Windows hosting in a minute. The fact is, if you’re building a straight HTML site, it shouldn’t matter. If you’re going to program server-side stuff, you’ll have to use a scripting language like PHP. Windows uses ASP, and PHP is generally found on Linux-hosted sites.

1, Which host server would I be best to sign up with in terms of cost and simplicity of tools to help me build my own website etc?
2, When I acquire a domain name do I rent the name of actually buy the rights to it?
Appreciate any advice.

launched the site couple days ago and google search shows the ‘1 and1 web hosting‘ default message.. checked and found last googlebot access was 2/1/2009, four days ago. how can i let googlebot recrawl my site to get latest content?

Googlebot will re crawl your site the next time it comes across it in it’s indexing.
Google.bot follows links to work it’s way through the web and if your site has little or no external links pointing to the pages it is going to struggle to find your site after manual submission.
In order to have your site crawled more regularly you are going to have to build a lot of links back to your site, the more links the more often google.bot will crawl your pages. I added my blog on December the 18th, it is now being crawled on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day.
Also more links mean higher serps rankings.
