Your Questions About Yahoo Web Host

John asks…

im hosting my website with YAHOO web hosting, they suck…who is the best?

I am switching my web hosting account, yahoo sucks horribly, who can i use, whos the best? host gator? godaddy, etc?

thanks, please do not suggest yahoo, they are the WORST by far!

admin answers:

In the over-crowded hosting market, it can be a daunting task to find a cheap and reliable company to host your website. All the companies promise stable service, but which ones are best for you and your needs? There are several different ways to find hosting that suits your budget but also provides great service. Let me answer your question by showing you what you need to know about finding good web hosting.

My suggestion is do not buy web hosting based on trust from what you see on the web hosts main page. There is nothing worse than spending all your time and effort building a great web site only to find out that your web host is down all the time or you have to wait an hour on hold just to get customer service on the line to help you fix a simple issue. Visit https://www.top15hosting.com and look through the independent and customer reviews. Look at the rankings of the top rated and do some comparison based on your needs. Do a little research before buying web hosting and you can avoid throwing your money away.

The common mistake when looking for website hosting is to just quickly browse the web and find the cheapest web hosting company they can find. They don’t take on board the fact that without choosing the best cheap host they could run into potential problems which will actually cost them more over time. Some cheap hosts oversell their servers so you will experience slow website response times and lots of downtime. Another common problem with cheap hosts is that they can’t offer the same level of support, so you can find yourself having long hold times and poor quality tech support.

Richard asks…

My Yahoo Web-hosted website is down, and I cannot receive emails sent to my domain?

Are Yahoo servers down this morning? Is anyone else experiencing the problem of their Yahoo web-hosted websited being down? I’ve troubleshot, and cannot find the problem.

Paul asks…

Cannot access yahoo hosted web site from China?

We use yahoo small business’s web hosting product. Just realized that the web site hosted by yahoo small business cannot be accessed from China. It seems the web-site is blocked by Chinese government. Does that mean if we want to do business with customers in China, we should NOT choose Yahoo‘s web-hosting solution? Any suggestion is appreciated.

admin answers:

It is probably the specific IP of the server your site is hosted on that is blocked, if you could get Yahoo! Small biz to move your site to another server that could help.

Your other options are to move to another hosting company altogether, or even host your site in China if most of your site audience is actually from there.

Check out the following blog to learn more about ways to keep your site unblocked in China:

Keeping your website unblocked in China

For proxy solutions I recommend https://www.proxy4china.com ; however you obviously can’t ask from your customers to visit your site through a proxy so getting your site unblocked should be your work.

Joseph asks…

How do I host our membership database on the web.?

I have an existing MS Access database, and I also have a Yahoo web
hosting account. Is there a way to upload the access database to the
web site, or export the content to another format and access it through the web site? Thanks for any help or general suggestions you can offer.

admin answers:

If your Yahoo web host is Asp/Asp.net ( Windows 2k or 2003 ), you can upload or FTP your database file to the host space ,and connect by ADO OR ADO.NET

But , If the host space is PHP ( Linux Server ) ,you have to output your Access date to MySQL database. Generally speaking,The PHP host is better than ASP Host ,Such as this website power by IPowerWeb Linux Host: https://host.joyfrosh.com

Your Questions About Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting

Laura asks…

can I set up a Joomla cms with a yahoo small business web hosting account and what’s the procedure?

Is there maybe an automatic installer like Fantastico for Joomla?

admin answers:

You can use the Joomla with your Yahoo! Web Hosting plan.
You can install Joomla in your account directly from the Joomla’s web site. Download the compressed file from Downloads section of the Joomla’s web site:
https://www.joomlatribune.com/joomla-tutorials/how-to-install-joomla-cms.html

After downloading the new version of Joomla you will need to uncompress the downloaded file on your computer using a software like WinZip. After uncompressing the file you can rename the folder accordingly and can upload the folder to your account using a FTP client. Upload all the files of Joomla in a separate subdirectory under your File Manager.

For creating a subdirectory under your File Manager, I have searched a link. Visit:
https://help.yahoo.com/help/us/webhosting/gfiles/gfiles-06.html

While uploading the files “.htaccess” file and few files with special characters in the filename will not get uploaded. You can ignore these files. Yahoo! Doesn’t support .htaccess files.
For information on where to obtain a free FTP program, visit:

https://help.yahoo.com/help/us/webhosting/gftp/gftp-08.html

Once you have downloaded and installed an FTP program, please review the instructions at:

https://help.yahoo.com/help/us/webhosting/gftp/gftp-09.html

You will need the following information:

* Address/Host Name: ftp.domain-name.com
* User Name: Yahoo! ID@domain-name.com
* Password: yourYahoo!IDpassword

After uploading the files you will need to configure the newly uploaded Joomla (CMS). Before you can configure Joomla you will need to create a new database using phpMyAdmin. After creating the new database you can use the new database name to configure Joomla. The hostname to be used to configure is “mysql” and the Administrator Email adderss should be one of the domain email address with a mailbox.

For creating MySQL database, please visit:

https://help.yahoo.com/help/us/webhosting/mysql/index.html

The minimum system requirement for the Joomla:

https://help.joomla.org/content/view/34/169/

I hope it will be best answer, I was doing research on this for last one day and finally i got it.

Helen asks…

Yahoo small business web hosting?

I have a friend who owns a company he has yahoo business… I think small business plan with yahoo. he used there template and such to design his last site. I am a professional web designer but i have no experience with yahoo. Can I upload my own website through them? So in short I need to find out if I can take my html files and upload it my self and how to do it.

admin answers:

I am no professional webmaster but when uploading my sites to any hosting place I use FTP ( File Transfer Protocol).
I used yahoo but when it came to using certain basic scripts it was’nt possible so I switched to IX and never looked back.
They are half the price and way more efficient.
You can see them in action at

James asks…

Does Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting support ASP.NET2.0 Web Pages?

I am a web developer working on a project in which my client has an existing web hosting service through Yahoo Small Business. However, it appears that this web hosting service does not recognize files with an aspx extension. It may be a publishing or configuration problem, but it appears that yahoo doesn’t support ASP.NET2.0. Which is outrageous, considering it (along with AJAX) are the emerging standards in web design… Thanks for any input that saves me from actually calling yahoo and remaining on hold for half a day just to get a yes or no answer….

admin answers:

I think it does why????

Donald asks…

What version of PHP does yahoo use for its small business web site hosting?

it says on their adds that they use PHP v4 but there is no way of contacting them to ask if they have upgraded to PHP v5. Kind of an important thing to know if you are thinking about hosting with them. Kinda bad business to not have a way for potential customers to contact you and ask you questions about the service you provide. I would expect better from Yahoo, they have been on the internet for a while. you would think that they would know that customer service is first.

Anyway. What version of PHP do they use for their web hosting small business account???!!?

admin answers:

You got it right. What kind of business do not allow us to contact them, even for presale… Can you imagine how the customer support would be like? Why bother looking for the PHP version if they don’t bother letting us the peace of mind to talk to them.

Well, Yahoo should stick to what they do best, doing search engine stuff. I made the mistake to register a domain with them too. I would advise you not to go with them.

If you need a tip for choosing a web hosting to use, I suggest you do the following:

1. Go to the webhost review sites such as webhostingjury, hostingsthatsuck.com or webhostinggeeks and list down about 3 common top hosting companies.

2. Next, for each web hosting X, do a “X sucks” search on Google. Read some complaints and see if you may encounter the same problems like them. Some of the complaints may relate to certain groups of users only such as VPS, dedicated server users or resellers. So you may not be affected if you are not from these categories.

3. Eliminate those hostings you feel uncomfortable with, and look for the best bargain hosting for your money.

Some good webhosts to consider are Fatcow, InMotion and Webfaction.

Good luck.

Your Questions About Web Host Provider

Mandy asks…

I want a web host provider for my own domain name. Do I have to have my domain name transfered?

What does transfering mean and am I expected to pay for it?

admin answers:

No, all you have to do is edit the dns records for your domain to point to your new host.

Eg: ns1@yourserverhost.net

normally when you transfer a domain you are moving it to a new service provider. When you transfer, you will also have to renew it for at least 1 extra year on top of the time left on the domain. You may also be able to push a domain for free to a new service provider if they let you do that. Depends on who you transfer with.

If you need hosting i can help…

or
webmaster@mymicrohost.net

Lisa asks…

Pls Help me to Find a web host provider, similar to yahoo or those big companies…!?

I already have a payment procesor which is called (Cybersourse) but cant find a web host provider that is compatible with my payment procesor. I have told yahoo have the best and newest options as hostes, but unfortunately is not compatible, same as MSN. any web host sugestions, with fee not over $14 dls per month?
Thanks 🙂

admin answers:

I pay about 100 per year for my hosting plan and the web host I deal with is huge they currently host over 200k Domain names. I have their middle of the road plan and they have always been very good to me and my web design and development business customers. I suggest giving them a try.

I have a link to them on my website https://www.lakeareawebs.com/links.html

Sandy asks…

I’m looking to host my new website for free. Can you recommend a reliable and free web host provider?

I would like these features at least: cPanel, MySQL, PHP, large disk space and bandwidth, and especially no-forced ads.

admin answers:

I have over a dozen of my websites hosted at https://www.squidoo.com/free-website-hosting

They have all the features you asked about and you can host unlimited domains.

I think they have all the features you’d expect from shared hosting companies.

I’ve used them for over a year and haven’t had downtime or any problems.

You can also use your own domain or a free subdomain from them.

Your Questions About Yahoo Web Hosting

Thomas asks…

How do I add a gallery to my personal site with Yahoo web hosting?

I have a site with Yahoo Web Hosting, and I have used one of their templates for my design. I know they have a Gallery2 add-on, but I am looking for something more like Flickr – easy to upload and update – but that lives within my existing design.

Is there such a thing? Can you please help?

Thanks!

admin answers:

I remember something like this in the tools section of the control panel. Try doing a search for gallery or pic gallery, something like that. — if nothing comes up, look through all the wizards –

also, if you have photoshop, you can make your own pic gallery + web pages in seconds with photoshop. Go to FILE >> AUTOMATE >> WEB PIC GALLERY

it whips it up for you in a few minutes, just direct it to the folder with the pics in it and it will generate all the html pages for you, with frontpage ( https://www.interkeys.com/htmleditor you can get an html editor and edit them to your liking.

Richard asks…

How do I transfer current joomla files over to yahoo web hosting?

I am currently using the joomla 30 day demo trial. How do I transfer the files that I already made on the demo site to my yahoo hosting account? All my files are in the back-end editor and I am not sure how to transfer them to my host site. Please help this neophyte joomla user!!!
I am using the 30 day trial off joomla.org, sponsored by cloudaccess.

admin answers:

Joomla doesn’t have a 30 day trial. It’s free to begin with. You probably have a 30 day trial on some hosting service.
To move Joomla from one hosting to another one I recommend using Akeeba backup extension. It will save you a lot of time. It allows you to back up complete Joomla install (including files and database) on one server and restore them on a new one. It will take care of all directory re-mappings etc. Otherwise, if you do it manually over FTP you may end up with non-working install until you tweak all directories etc.
Good luck.

Paul asks…

Does yahoo web hosting include unlimited domains?

Most hosting companies do, but I couldn’t seem to find the info on yahoo. I would like to make a couple of websites, and I am looking for a web host provider that offers unlimited sites, with the unlimited use of a website builder, as I am a bit of a novice at web design.
I’m getting a some replies, but no one seems to want to answer the question. All spammers are reported to yahoo.

admin answers:

We do offer up to 500 subdomains, but only one domain name per order. For example, while you could have dang.com as your primary domain, and blog.dang.com, artwork.dang.com, and tutorials.dang.com as your subdomains, you would not be able to get dang.com, dan_g.com, and dannyg.com as separate domain names under the same order.

If you have any additional questions about what’s included in our Web Hosting packages, please visit https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/details . If you still have questions, please feel free to call us at 866-781-9246, Mon.–Fri., 7 a.m.–5 p.m. PT

Your Questions About Yahoo Web Host

John asks…

I have Yahoo as Web Host and I use Yahoo Site Builder to create my First Website.?

Since I’m a real Beginner at building a website, I thought that YSB (Yahoo SiteBuilder) was as easy as they claim to be, but it’s not. Do you know any other Site Builder who is truly easy or easier than YSB? and most of all that would work in case I change web host. I do not want to go through the work of building a site and then I cannot use it with another Web Host….

admin answers:

Best option for you is to use a good HTML editor and build your website and keep the back up so that even if you change the web host it would be handy. If you want to change your web host kindly visit either of the sites listed below for reliable and cheaper web hosting solutions.

If you need any other designing help kindly contact me … Its free.

Helen asks…

Can a site created in Yahoo site Builder be hosted with another web hosting company?

I was wondering if i could do host on maybe host monster or any other cheaper web hosting company because yahoo hosting is a bit much. What are the positive benifits with hosting with yahoo? What is the best web hosting company?
I was thinking about WHP…Is it a hassle to change it from Yahoo to another company?

admin answers:

Yes it can, you could download the files then upload them to another website. Or you could copy the source code then change it to fit the other website.

Sandra asks…

Can I publish a website with site-builder using a different web host?

Hi… I have recently published my site using site-builder and yahoo web hosting. I am new to all of this website stuff and it’s been tons of fun!!! I have been asked to work on another site and I’m wondering if I can use yahoo site-builder with out yahoo web hosting to create and publish this other site.

admin answers:

This is not possible because Yahoo uses proprietary software for the builder. You could, however, download the static HTML pages then upload them somewhere else, then use a webpage authoring software like Microsoft Frontpage or Dreamweaver. If you’d like a free editor, try Nvu (https://nvudev.com).

Thomas asks…

How do I keep viewers from saving my pictures to their computers on my Yahoo web site?

I want to sell copies of some of my nature photos in big sizes mailed from my home on my Yahoo-hosted web site- but there is no use now because anybody can just right-click and save the picture to their computer now to get the picture now.

admin answers:

Easy- in Microsoft Digital Pro 10 I clicked for a new image and immediately saved it as a gif file. Then in Yahoo Sitebuilder I picked it to cover one or all the images on a page. Sitebuilder shows the outline and the “handles” to stretch the transparent image. When somebody tries to save the underneath image they save the transparent image on top. Does not work in Windows Paint.
