Is Pakistan going to go to war with the whole World Wide Web?
“Pakistan will start monitoring seven major websites, including Google and Yahoo, for content it deems offensive to Muslims.

Officials will monitor the sites and block links deemed inappropriate.

Chris asks…
Why is Pakistan’s reaction to Wikileaks so much more tame than Canada’s?
The world is in an uproar:
>Key advisor to Canada’s PM Stephen Harper, Tom Flanagan, called on President Obama to “put out a contract and maybe use a drone”.
>Julian Assange writes “We have hundreds of specific death threats from U.S. military militants, Islamic extremists, African kleptocrats and so on,”.”Recently the situation has changed with these threats now extending out to our lawyers and my children,” he added. “However, it is the specific calls from the elites of U.S. society for our assassination, kidnapping and execution that is more concerning.”
>Senator Joseph Lieberman is said to have called Amazon on December 1, to complain about their hosting of Wikileaks leading to it getting the boot.
>Eric Besson, the French minister for industry, energy and digital economy, wrote a letter to CGIET, the agency that looks after internet use in France, looking for the means to block hosting for WikiLeaks in France. It has subsequently been blocked.
>Wikileaks.org has become the target of multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks.
>Thai authorities have used emergency powers to restrict access to the WikiLeaks.
>China has attempted to block all traffic to web sites with “wikileaks” in the url.
>The United Arab Emirates has banned the new Wikileaks website hosted in Switzerland.
>Paypal has canceled all donations to the website using its services.
>“Talking about WikiLeaks on Facebook or Twitter could endanger your job prospects,” a State Department official warned students at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs this week, reports said.
And then there’s Pakistan…
In Pakistan, Lahore High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a ban on the Wikileaks website. The judge dismissed the petition and called it ‘non-maintainable’. The judge added, “We must bear the truth, no matter how harmful it is.”
What gives?
admin answers:
