Your Questions About Web Host For Frontpage

David asks…

how can i create a website for a school assignment?

people say you need some kinda web hosts and domain, but you have to pay for that. and i dont have microsoft frontpage either to create a website. someone said i can use word and then change the format to html, but it doesnt seem right. exactly what kind of program do i use to create it?

admin answers:

Since you are doing it simply for school you don’t need to worry about paying for a host or anything of the sort.
You need a good idea of HTML (and CSS for the style).
Open up Notepad and save it as a .html document.

If you need a starter use:

Lisa asks…

Are there any web design / hosting companies that can produce for its customers a simple 1-2 page website?

Are there any web design / hosting companies that can produce for its customers a simple 1-2 page website that can be hosted for them also.

I’d normally just do the above myself using a simple program e.g frontpage etc but currently I haven’t the time but do indeed need to get this simple 1-2 page project up & running quite soon – hence my question.

Thanks for your info in advance guys.

Paul asks…

Link bars in Frontpage showing in offline browser preview but not on live site after uploading to web server?

I do have Frontpage extensions enabled on the server. The site has page banners, link bars and a discussion forum and only the discussion forum works on the live site. So it seems that the Frontpage extensions do work, but not for the link bar and the page banner. When I open the live site (remotely) in Frontpage, it says in the location where the link bar should be something like: “add page to navigation structure to show linkbar” whereas it works perfectly well offline (locally) and I copied the entire file structure over to the web server. Do I have to re-create the navigation structure remotely? Is that normal? My ISP is 1and1 and I have Linux hosting.

admin answers:

Be sure to check your file permissions to make sure they are readable, as this is necessary to view the link bar and banner after upload.

Also, check your code/script to make sure the files aren’t being referenced by local address as it is highly unlikely that 1&1 uses the same file structure for storage as your local setup. If you are on Windows, (which I assume you are from Frontpage), make sure the pages you create don’t use “C:/address/filename.extension” or something similar. They will need to be “http://yoursite.com/filename.extension” or “/filename.extension” if the linkbar and banner are stored in the root web directory, or “/folder/filename.extension” if they are in an “images” folder or something similar.

Good luck!

Ken asks…

Justhost.com problem!!!?

I want to use Microsoft FrontPage 2000 with justhost.com web hosting. I can’t seem to find a section in the justhost website where I can cut and paste the html code from Frontpage. All I seem to get are templates and i’d rather start from scratch.

Can anyone help me out?

I am basically looking for a way to edit a website using solely FrontPage and then publish it through justhost.com which i’ve already paid for!

Thanks!

admin answers:

Joker,

Im not sure about Frontpage I really dont use it but…….

Front page is really just an html editor, so I believe you would use an ftp program and just upload the files for the website you create with Frontpage to the public_html folder on Justhost.
If you want to be sure, use Justhosts instant chat support and they should be able to walk you through it.
